X-Ray and Imaging

Dental X-ray and imaging are essential tools of dental diagnosis and treatment planning. Along with intraoral examination, data obtained through digital X-rays and three-dimensional imaging systems provide detailed and reliable information that supports the dentist's evaluation. Modern imaging methods contribute to the diagnostic process with low radiation doses and high resolution. There are different types of dental X-rays. Periapical X-rays are used for detailed evaluation of a single tooth or a small area. Bitewing X-rays may be preferred to evaluate the surfaces of adjacent teeth and interproximal caries. Panoramic X-rays present the jaws as a whole, all teeth and the surrounding structures in a single image. Cephalometric X-rays are used in orthodontic evaluations to analyze jaw relationships. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a modern three-dimensional imaging method. It is frequently used for implant planning, localization of impacted teeth, endodontic assessments and surgical planning. CBCT provides detailed information about the jawbone structure, sinus areas, nerve canals and tooth roots, supporting the dentist during the treatment planning phase. Radiation protection measures are applied during imaging procedures. The patient is protected appropriately, devices are operated with low-dose protocols and only the imaging considered necessary is performed. The obtained images are evaluated digitally and can be shared with other dentists when needed, supporting a multidisciplinary approach. The choice of imaging method for each patient is determined by the dentist in line with clinical needs and examination findings.
