A dental implant is a fixed prosthetic treatment placed on biocompatible titanium screws inserted into the jawbone to replace one or more missing teeth. Integrating with the jawbone similarly to a natural tooth root, the implant supports chewing function and esthetic appearance as a contemporary treatment option. Treatment planning begins with a comprehensive intraoral examination. Digital panoramic X-rays and, when needed, three-dimensional cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) are performed. The dentist shapes an individualized plan based on jawbone density, gum tissue condition, general medical history and intraoral findings. When required, preparatory procedures such as sinus lifting or bone grafting may be performed. The surgical phase is carried out under local anesthesia in sterile conditions. The titanium implant is placed in the previously prepared jawbone site. Osseointegration, the biological fusion between the bone and the implant, usually takes three to six months. After this period, an abutment is placed on the implant, an impression is taken, and the prosthetic restoration (crown or bridge) is secured. Proper oral hygiene after treatment — daily brushing, use of dental floss and interdental brushes recommended by the dentist — supports the health of tissues around the implant. Six-month check-ups and professional oral care are an important part of long-term follow-up. Each patient's treatment plan is individual.
